Obituary

Jesse Gregory Kula passed away on April 13, 2025, in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Born on May 9, 1983, and raised in Harwinton, Connecticut, Jesse brought a sharp wit into every room he entered. He graduated from Lewis Mills High School in 2001, earned a BA in English from Northeastern University in 2005, and completed his MBA at Boston University in 2014. Jesse spent nearly two decades at Bostonia Partners LLC, where he took great pride in his work in renewable and energy efficiency investment and deeply valued the community he found there.

Jesse was a passionate soccer player who found joy both on and off the field—whether cheering on his beloved Arsenal or playing alongside lifelong friends with the Druids. A brilliant and curious mind, Jesse was an avid reader with a deep love for history, ancient religions, and the mysteries of long-lost civilizations. He was a talented writer and musician; known for his thoughtful poetry and the quiet hours he spent with his guitar.

Affectionately known as “the Witz” among friends, Jesse’s dry humor and quick intellect were unmatched. His ability to make people laugh—and think—will be missed more deeply than words can say.

Jesse is survived by his partner of 15 years, Sarah Cechvala; his mother Jo-Ann Wood and her partner James Dinda of Farmington, Connecticut; his father Gregory Kula of Chuckey, Tennessee; his sister Becki Hildrew and her husband Doug of Bethany, Connecticut; and his cherished niece and nephew, Lyra and Rhys. He is also survived by Joseph Cormier, his beloved cousin whose bond with Jesse was that of a true brother, and Joseph’s partner Amanda Call of Simsbury, Connecticut, along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved dog Bandi; his grandparents Eleanor and Jozef Kula (Babci & Dziadzi) and Joan and Harold Wood, Jr. (Nonnie & Grampy); and his childhood best friend, William Nadeau.

A celebration of Jesse’s life will be held at the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, MA on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Soccer Without Borders, in honor of Jesse’s lifelong love for the game and the simple pleasure he took in sharing it with those around him.
