Obituary

MEREDITH ---- Robert Stephen Douglass, 90, of Meredith, NH, formerly of Centerville, MA, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years, Suzanne Marie (Callow) Douglass and his sister Audrey Holm Douglass.

Robert, known to most as Doug, was born October 16, 1934, in Boston, MA, the son of the late Clifford and Viola Douglass.

Doug graduated from Hyde Park High School and went on to marry his high school sweetheart Sue, on May 28, 1955, in Milton, MA.

Doug served in the US Army in France in the late 1950s and returned home to start a lengthy career working for Massachusetts Electric and New England Electric, before retiring in 1992. With his wife Sue, they raised their family of four sons in Milton, Harvard and Still River, MA.

Doug had a passion for driving and working on cars, having owned 85 vehicles in his lifetime. From his first, a 1931 Chevy 2 door sedan to his last, a 2012 Honda CRV, with many unique cars in between, like his 1957 MGA roadster, 1952 Anglia, and a 1974 VW Thing, perhaps his favorite was his 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe which he enjoyed showing at various car shows around the country and even had a brief cameo, with him as the driver, in the movie “Mona Lisa’s Smile”.

Remaining to cherish Doug’s memory are his children, Christopher and his partner Linda, Gerald, Alan and his wife Nancy and Andrew and his wife Michelle; grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Valarie Douglass, Jessica Douglass, Patrick Douglass, Luke and his wife Olive Douglass, Jack Douglass and Brian Douglass; great-grandchildren, Lola, Kaden, Anais, Rachel, Elizabeth and Robert and many nieces and nephews.

Doug’s family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Golden View Healthcare Center in Meredith, NH, and the hospice nurses at Lakes Region Visiting Nurse Association for all that they did for Doug.

There will be no calling hours.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service for Doug and Sue on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:00am, in Milton Cemetery, Milton, MA, followed by a celebration of life luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to your local food pantry, purchase a car if that makes you happy, have a cup of coffee with a friend, or any combination of the three.
