Joe was born on April 27. 1926 in Charlestown, MA. He lived there until he enlisted in
the United States Army in 1944 where he was stationed in Germany. On his return he
attended Bentley College majoring in accounting. He met the love of his life, Tess, at a
football game in the fall of 1949 but initially it wasn’t love at first sight. Tess was upset
because she thought Joe pushed her tam off of her head into the mud. Actually, his
friend Eddie did it. They later met at an ice cream parlor and that’s where it all began.
They fell in love and married on April 23,1950. They had 7 children together. He was a
Boston Police patrolman and quickly worked his way up the ranks to Captain at Boston
Police Headquarters. He reluctantly retired after 40+ years of service. He was well
respected by his colleagues on the force and his friends.

He enjoyed spending summers on Cape Cod, sailing on his boat the Summerwind,
clamming and being with his family. He also enjoyed his many trips to Florida and
golfing in Myrtle Beach, SC with his sons, sons-in-law, nephews and many friends. His
greatest joy was being surrounded by his family. He was an avid reader, golfer, boater,
gardener, he also enjoyed his daily crossword puzzles and sudoku. He was an
extraordinary person, father and husband, he will be sorely missed by his family and by
all who knew him.
