Leo L Welch, a resident of Lowell, MA passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025 at the age of 51. Born to David L Welch and Jane M Tibbetts (Savard), Leo was a person of unwavering spirit, whose life, though marked by challenges, was filled with strength and a deep-seated kindness.
Leo faced adversity with remarkable resilience, never losing his sense of self. Known for his loyalty and heart, he lived life on his terms; and live life he did! Often joking he had more lives than a cat, and using them frequently to his mother’s dismay. He was adamant he was only functioning on a “quarter of a brain” following one accident; but it was the best quarter. When he put his mind or heart to something, you could be sure it was going to happen.
After struggling with substance misuse, mental health, and the complications of both his entire adult life, he finally succumbed to his mortality. Leo passed away on April 4, 2025; on the 6 month anniversary of his sobriety and seeking treatment. He ultimately succumbed to his liver disease and passed peacefully in his sleep committed to his new life path.
Leo is survived by his siblings Richard Welch of Lowell, MA, Timothy Welch of Haverhill, MA, Peter Welch of Haverhill, MA, Catherine Tibbetts of Stoneham, MA and Edward Tibbetts of Stoneham, MA. He is also survived by his step-father Edward Tibbetts, his aunt Rose Thompson, her family who was a second family to Leo, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Leo was predeceased by his parents David L Welch and Jane M Tibbetts as well as his brother David L Welch Jr.
All are welcome to attend his graveside funeral service on Tuesday, April 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Cemetery, 1251 Gorham Street, Lowell, MA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Brain Injury Association of America at biausa.org/support online.
