Claudia June Carr
December 13, 1934 - April 5, 2025
Claudia June Carr lived her life for Jesus-not perfectly, but faithfully. She loved others through service, sewing, cooking, and listening. She poured her love into everything she touched and everyone she met.
Born in Oklahoma to Claude Lively and Lola D'Attrice Carter, June lost her mother when she was just 16 months old. She and her sister, Renna Jo, were raised by their maternal grandparents and formed a lifelong, unshakable bond. When their father remarried and reunited the family, June gained four younger brothers-Lewis, Jerry, James, and Jack-whom she adored.
The family eventually settled in Saticoy, California, where June graduated from Ventura High School in 1953. That same year, she met and married the love of her life, Bill Carr. She thought he was the most handsome man she'd ever seen, and he was captivated by her deep red hair. Together, they built a life anchored in their faith in Jesus Christ, marked by love, sacrifice, and deep devotion.
Bill worked two jobs to provide, while June created a warm and nurturing home. She taught herself to sew and made her own clothes, her daughter Joanne's dresses, and even Joanne's wedding gown. She was endlessly resourceful, and together she and Bill renovated and managed several homes-long before house flipping was trendy. June kept detailed spreadsheets to manage their rental properties before spreadsheets were even a thing.
She dreamed of being a nurse, and although she never achieved this career, she raised her son the doctor and her daughter the medical social worker. She loved and supported her other son, who struggled most of his life. June also thoroughly enjoyed her granddaughters, delighting in their lives, accomplishments, and simply being with them. Her love for her family was steady, strong, and unconditional.
After her children were grown, June worked at Baron's Fabrics in Camarillo, a job she truly loved. She cherished her coworkers, the customers, and the joy of being surrounded by fabric. Sewing was one of her greatest expressions of love-she could make or alter anything. After Bill passed, she began making baby blankets and lap quilts for friends, family, and even strangers. With each blanket, she enclosed a prayer: "Lord, wrap Your arms around this person. Give them strength and Your peace."
She was also a wonderful cook. Her chocolate cream pie won first place at the Ventura County Fair, and her chocolate cake and Mrs. Fields-style cookies were family favorites. During the holidays, the demand for her pies meant she often baked for days, never once complaining. She'd often say, "It'll take me two seconds to make that pie crust from scratch."
Her heart for others extended far beyond her immediate family. She gave to churches she had never visited simply because they were connected to someone she loved.
She loved her family fiercely-her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers, sister, and friends. June could light up a room with her warmth (unless you parked in front of her house without asking!). She listened with her whole heart and made people feel deeply seen and cared for. When she was hospitalized after breaking her hip, the nursing staff returned to her room simply to talk with her, drawn by her kindness and presence.
Our mom, grandma, aunt, and friend was a beacon of God's love through Jesus Christ. Well-done, good and faithful servant. In my Father's house there are many rooms, welcome home, Claudia June Carr.
