HOLLIS- Carroll “Bumpa” William McIntire, Sr., age 78, passed away on April 9, 2025, at his home surrounded by
family.
Carroll was born in Portland, Maine, on February 4, 1947. He lived in Hollis and the surrounding towns
his entire life. Carroll graduated from Bonny Eagle High School in 1965. Carroll married his high school
sweetheart, Sheila (Warren) McIntire, in 1968. He was married to Sheila for 56 years. They had two
children, Carroll William McIntire, Jr., who currently lives in Florida with his wife Stacey, and Rebecca
(McIntire) Calzini, of Massachusetts, who was predeceased by her husband Bob.
Bumpa was a proud Grandfather to Samuel, Thomas, William, Samantha and Matthew. He is survived by
3 brothers - Charlie, Raymond, and Owen, sister Sybil, half-sister Cindy and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Carroll was a talented carpenter. He built many houses, camps, additions and garages in the Hollis area
and around Panther Pond.
In the 1970’s and 80’s, Carroll was a Little League coach in Limington. He was also active in Boy Scouts
of America. He was Scoutmaster for Troop 315 in Limington for 10 years. Carroll mentored many Boy
Scouts to enjoy the outdoors and attain the rank of Eagle Scout, including his son, Carroll Jr., and
grandson, Thomas.
Carroll was happiest when he was outside. He enjoyed camping, watching wildlife, visiting around the
campfire and bird watching. Carroll was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved fishing for crappie in the
Saco River and trout in the Seboomook Lake region. Carroll’s favorite spots were on The Riverbank and
King’s High Landing. He passed his knowledge and love of the outdoors on to many youth, including his
grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date - once the weather is warmer. Burial will be private. In
lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Lung Association in his name
