Obituary

Maurice Lavoie of Londonderry, NH died quietly of natural causes at home surround by friends and family under the care of hospice. He was the faithful and loving husband of the late Josephine Lavoie who predeceased him in 2020. They were married for 48 years, and while they did not have any children, they tried to serve God’s children through other avenues.

He was born in 1933 and was the son of Wilfred and Cecile (Chaisson) Lavoie of Bethlehem, NH. His home was on a farm on the scenic Old Franconia Road in Bethlehem. The farm was named Lotta Rock Farm and it grew into a large family-owned dairy during the ensuing years.

Maurice did not stay in the dairy business as three of his brothers did. After serving in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, he embarked on pursuing a career in accounting and finance. He attended and graduated from Bentley University in Waltham, MA, Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ, and Northeastern University, Boston, MA. He also completed a number of postgraduate courses at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.

In 1969, Maurice met his wife to be, Josephine Flynn, in Boston and they were later married in Lynn, MA in 1972. They lived for three years in Nashua, NH and then moved to Londonderry in 1975. Over twenty years of his professional life was spent with the Hampshire Manufacturing Company of Nashua. He left the company as controller of Accounting and Finance.

It would be remiss not to mention Maurice’s great love for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. To him along with his dear wife, these were the most important aspects of his life. His love for Christianity received a boost when he attended the catholic university Seton Hall in New Jersey in the late 1950’s. While there he majored in philosophy and theology. During his life he became notably involved with many Catholic/Christian ministries. They were teaching CCD, Eucharistic Minister, the Men of St. Joseph, the Right to Life movement, the Rivier University Charismatic Prayer Community, teaching RCIA program and assisting the poor in various soup kitchens.

Maurice will be waked, Monday Afternoon, April 14th from 2 – 5pm in St. Mark’s Parish, One South Rd, Londonderry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday April 15th at 2:00pm in the Church. He will be laid to rest with his beloved Josephine on Tuesday, April 22nd at 11:30am in the St. Rose of Lima New Catholic Cemetery, W. Main St., Littleton, NH. Due to lent and all services occurring in the Church, flowers need to be omitted. Donations in his memory may be made to Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, 2 Quincy St., Nashua, NH 03060. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling the arrangements.
