Luis Alberto Pagan Aviles, affectionately known to many as “Berti,” passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the age of 45.
Born in Puerto Rico, Luis grew up between Puerto Rico and New Jersey before settling in Lowell, Massachusetts, where he attended Lowell High School as well as high school in New Jersey. Over the years, he also spent time living in Florida, but no matter where life took him, Luis made lasting connections everywhere he went.
A gifted mechanic with a deep love for cars, Luis found joy in his work and pride in his craft. Fixing cars wasn’t just a job for him—it was his passion. He was always there to lend a helping hand, whether it was under the hood of a car or in the lives of his friends and family. With a generous heart and an easy smile, Luis had a way of turning strangers into friends.
He adored animals, especially his dog, and his deep compassion extended to all living things.
Luis shared 32 loving years with his companion, Blanca Barriel. He was a devoted father to his eight children:
Anthony Emmanuel Pagan-Barriel, Zahara Nichelle Pagan-Barriel, Xiomara Miosoty Pagan-Barriel, Angel Rafael Pagan-Barriel, Luis Daniel Pagan-Barriel, Ayden Alvetito Pagan-Barriel, all of Lowell, and Debbie N. Pagan-De Jesus of Ohio.
He was also the proud grandfather of Anthony Jr., Zayvein, Isabella, Mason, Noah, and Mia.
Luis is survived by his parents, Victor Pagan of New Jersey and Maria Elisa Aviles of Puerto Rico; and by his siblings: Victor, William, Demaris, Suhey, Jesus Manuel, Shayla, Suhaley, Yesire, and Victor.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, Luis Alberto Barriel-Pagan.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at his visitation on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 01852.
