Obituary

Mr. Karl O. Fredriksen, a devoted father, grandfather, and longtime resident of Foxboro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 82 years old.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 17, 1943, he was the beloved son of the late Karl J. and W. Sylvia (Anderson) Fredriksen. Karl proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard, stationed aboard the USCG Legare and later at Base Boston. Following his service, he worked for many years as a self-employed painter and wallpaper hanger, known for his meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail.

In his spare time, Karl enjoyed being on the water and boating, especially aboard his beloved boat, Viking. He spent countless joyful hours cruising around Buzzards Bay, Martha’s Vineyard, and later, Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. He enjoyed vacationing in New Hampshire, and taking his family on memorable trips to Killington and Mount Snow. A lifelong hockey enthusiast, he played in adult leagues well into his 40s and never missed a Bruins game. He was also a devoted fan of Boston sports and loved cheering on the Red Sox and Patriots every season.

Karl had a deep love of music and collected 45s from a young age. He especially enjoyed playing them on his treasured jukebox. He was a passionate bowler, playing in the South Shore Viking League into his 70s, and was a proud owner of his cherished Buick and Chevy station wagons, aka “the paint wagon.” He served as the Chief of the South Shore Viking Club. He deeply cherished time spent with family and friends—whether sharing stories during peaceful days on the water, enjoying laughter around the dinner table, or simply being present in the company of those he loved.

Karl is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Jill Fredriksen of Medfield; his daughter, Katrina Cuscia of Foxboro; his brother, Erik and his wife Marilyn Fredriksen of Derry, New Hampshire; and his sister, Karin and her husband Brian Sullivan of Hingham. He was the proud grandfather of Cole and Cara Fredriksen, and Gianna and Vittoria Cuscia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Karl was predeceased by his sisters Vendla Margeson, Martha Hanson, and Linnea Richardson.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 212 Main Street, Foxboro, on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow immediately after visitation, with interment at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
