It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Maria Elvira Guicharnaud Ayala, who left us on March 8, 2025, International Women’s Day, after a courageous and devastating battle with liver cirrhosis. Full of love, laughter, and resilience, Elvira was as vibrant as the clothes she wore, her Fiesta decor, and the flowers in her garden. She was a bold and brilliant thinker who always offered love in abundance and never backed down from a challenge. Always adoring with a strong heart, mind, and a joie de vivre, she was a vivacious and loyal friend to many and a cherished member of the education community in San Antonio, Texas serving for close to 50 years in SAISD as an educator and Assistant Principal. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and a passion for standing up for what she believed in. She loved socializing with her beloved community, her sweet animals, her bountiful garden, and her dear family. Vira loved living life, whether it be riding her bike or visiting the botanical gardens or walking the River Walk or collecting Fiesta medals while watching the parades pass by. She loved arts and language as well as attending Spurs games with friends and family. She was preceded by father Juan Franscisco Guicharnaud, Maria Elena Martinez, and leaves behind Samuel T. Ayala, Marcelino G. Ayala, Iris G. Ayala-Kronos, Stell Ayala-Kronos, and granddaughter Isla G. Ayala along with countless friends who felt her warmth and generosity.
Celebration of life services will take place in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
