Higgins, George W. (Retired Boston Police) of Quincy, formerly of Mission Hill and Dorchester, passed away on April 4, 2025.
Beloved husband of 49 years to Susan M. (Macas) Higgins. Devoted father of Malachy Higgins (MSP) and his wife Gemma of Plymouth, Kerry Devin and her husband Patrick (MSP) of Marshfield, and Jennifer Dow and her husband John of Quincy. Cherished "Papa" to Madeleine, the late Patrick Jr., Bridget, Brian, Shane, Frankie Violet, and Johnny.
Loving brother of John and his wife Irina, the late Lawrence "Buddy" and his wife Marie, James "Jimmy" and his wife Lianne, the late Francis "Luke" and his late wife Dorothy, Paul and his late wife Elizabeth, Leo and his late wife Elaine, and Richard "Richie" and his late wife Trina.
George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany. During his time abroad, he took up boxing and traveled throughout Europe, including a meaningful visit to his parents' homeland of Ireland.
An avid lover of football, George played and coached in Mission Hill and, on Sundays, he never missed a Pats game. After retiring, he spent many days at President Golf Course, perfecting his swing. In his younger years, he also enjoyed skiing the slopes of North Conway.
George was always quick with a joke and was famous for his one-liners and witty sayings. He lived life fully and on his own terms. Above all, George was a family man. His wife Susan was the love of his life, and his three children and grandchildren meant the world to him. He was fiercely protective, endlessly loyal, and a steady source of strength for all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
A private burial will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. A Celebration of Life to honor George will be held at a later date. Details to follow.
