WORCESTER___Donald Roger Cousineau, 90, passed peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family on April 4, 2025.
He was born in Worcester, MA on June 9, 1934, to the late Roger E. & Beatrice M. Cousineau. He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Elaine F. (Curran) Cousineau and his children, Alan E. Cousineau of Millbury, David R. Cousineau (wife Jeanne) of Queensbury, NY, and Eileen F. Goodell (husband Ted) of Lynn, MA. His legacy includes Grace, Benjamin, and Nora Goodell and Bobby Cousineau, who were his pride and joy.
He also leaves behind a St. John’s classmate (53) and lifelong friends, John and Eleanor Doon, and Richard and Judy Juneau. He is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Donald graduated from St. John’s High School (53) and Worcester State College (BS 57) (EdM 60). Donald taught in the Auburn Public Schools for 37 years with most of his time at Pakachoag School. He was also known for working at Thom McAn & Spag’s during his summers.
Known as a man of great faith, Don was an active member of Christ the King Church. He served as lector, CYC Advisor, and committee member and treasurer of Cub Scout Pack #37. He was a life member of Alhambra Council #88 Knights of Columbus, retired Friends of Greendale, Retired Educators Association of MA (REAM), and the Auburn Retired School Personnel. Don also served in the Massachusetts National Guard.
Most important to Don was the love of his family and celebrating the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He provided them with camping trips, first in a tent, then in his trailer, in which he instilled passion for travel and an appreciation for learning. He always said the cross-country trip in 1978 was the best education! His love of travel and adventure continued in later years especially with trips to Disney with his grandkids. It gave us all a chance to celebrate a remarkable connection… Our Donald shared the exact same birthday as Donald Duck.
His other interests were found at home such as tinkering at his work bench, watering the lawn, watching his beloved Boston sports teams, and playing countless games of cards and cribbage. There was usually a pun to be had and plenty of laughter from his dry sense of humor. His back scratches were always welcomed. He loved baking his famous chocolate chip cookies that he would share with others.
Donald is predeceased by his brother Robert L. Cousineau.
The family would like to thank the staff of UMASS Medical Center for their care and compassion shown to Don during this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Donald R. Cousineau and Elaine F. Cousineau Elementary Education Award at Worcester State University (486 Chandler St. Worcester, MA 01602) or St. John’s High School (378 Main St. Shrewsbury, MA 01545).
