James Marguerite Sr., age 83, of Franklin, MA passed away peacefully from his home on Sunday, April 6, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born January 5, 1942, in Milford, MA, a son of the late Louis J Marguerite Sr. and Ernestine (Tavernier) Marguerite, he was a lifelong resident of Franklin, MA.

On August 21, 1965, he married the love of his life, Susan, and they settled in Franklin, MA, where they raised their family and enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage.

He was the father of James Marguerite Jr. and his wife Dana of Hopkinton, MA; Jesse Marguerite of Franklin, MA; and Jason Marguerite and his wife Sandra of Cumberland, RI. He was very proud of his 5 grandchildren: Jake, Anthony, Andrea, Jesse, and Bella; and his 2 step-grandchildren Steven and Eric Jannell. He was an extremely devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother to his family members.

He is also survived by his siblings: Louis Marguerite Jr. and his wife Beverly; Linda (Marguerite) Giandomenico and her husband Joseph; and Elaine (Marguerite) Tolman and her husband Errold.

Raised in Franklin, MA, he graduated from Franklin High School in 1960. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy MCB1 from 1960 to 1964, with deployments to Cuba, Antarctica and Rota Spain. He was stationed in Davisville RI — home of the East Coast USN Seabee’s. Upon his discharge from the US Navy, he became a proud member of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen Local 7 located in Foxboro, MA. As a member of Local 7, he mastered his craft in bricklaying and was also a Journeyman Cement Mason. He spent over 60 years working in construction on some of the most notable projects in the New England area.

He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed deer hunting and ice fishing with his sons, family and friends. He enjoyed the local professional sports teams, especially the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. There was seldom a time when he would miss watching a game on TV. His passion and hobby were vegetable gardening, and he was known for his “Green Thumb”. He looked forward to harvesting his garden and sharing his crops with family, friends, and neighborhood acquaintances. He used his old school talents in the kitchen to make Italian specialties such as porchetta, sausage, dry cured meats, vinegar peppers, spaghetti aglio e olio with clams, and tripe while enjoying his homemade wine.
