Obituary

Thomas Robert Sheerin Sr., known lovingly as Tom, Dad, Papa, Husband, Father, Uncle, and Friend, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, in his hometown of Boston. He was 82 years old.

Born on March 19, 1943, in Boston, Tom lived a life defined by devotion—to his family, his work, and the people whose lives he touched. A skilled house painter for over 60 years, Tom poured his heart into his work, leaving his mark on homes and hearts across the city he loved.

Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as an infantryman, and in 1965, while in a foxhole overseas, he received the news that his first son had been born. It was a moment that shaped him—equal parts sacrifice and the beginning of his greatest joy: being a father.

A devoted husband to Janet, his first and only love, Tom shared 60 years of marriage filled with laughter, resilience, and unwavering love. Together they raised three children—Thomas Jr., William, Nancy, as well as nephew, Jack—each of whom brought him immeasurable pride. His grandchildren—Brigitte, Thomas III, Dante, Cole, William, Brynn, and Cara—were the light of his life. He never missed a moment to cheer them on, celebrate their successes, and offer a warm embrace.

Tom's 36 years of sobriety were a source of quiet strength and inspiration to many. Through his example, he showed what it meant to live with honesty, humility, and purpose. He supported others on their own paths, offering compassion, wisdom, and hope.

He had a deep love for music, and his home was often filled with the sounds of old favorites and the laughter of family. His warmth, humor, and generous heart made him the anchor of the Sheerin family.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife Janet, his three children, and seven grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brothers Jim, Jack, Ed, and Bob (“Chicky”). He was preceded in death by his siblings Billy, Frank, and Helen, all of whom he loved dearly and remembered often.

Thomas Robert Sheerin Sr. lived a life of purpose, loyalty, and love. His legacy will carry on in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
