Obituary

Athanasia (Birbilis) Lyberopoulos passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, after several months of rapidly declining health.
She was born on September 27, 1940, in the village of Vouno, in Tegea/Tripoli, Greece to George and Eleni Birbilis and came to Worcester, Massachusetts in the mid-1960s. She married her loving husband Theodore “Teddy” in 1970.

Athanasia was a lifelong member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and served in various church-related philanthropic groups. She also worked at a few local companies over the years, including Paul Revere Insurance in Worcester.

Athanasia was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Takis, as well as her first cousin and dear friend Eleni “Helen” Economou. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Teddy, her loving son, Constantine “Dino”, her nephews, John and Philip Economou, as well as several other relatives and devoted friends, including Letta Markopoulos and Achilles and Elly Athanasiou, who all visited her almost every day over the past three months. She also leaves her sister, Christina, and nieces, Vicki and Eleni in Greece.

Athanasia will be fondly remembered as a kind, gentle, selfless Christian woman who cherished her husband, adored her son, and remained devoted to her relatives and friends, especially when they were in need.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, April 9 from 10:00 until 11 a.m. in Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609. Her funeral service will follow the calling hours in the Cathedral.
