CHICOPEE – Roger A. Paul, 93, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, March 27, 2025. He passed into Eternal Life at the Mont Marie Rehabilitation and Health Care in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on September 9, 1931, a beloved son of the late Arthur and Anna (Lapointe) Paul. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Precious Blood High School in Holyoke, and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. He furthered his education and received an associate’s degree at Holyoke Community College. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy and attained the rank of Hospital Corpsman. He was a Police Officer for over 32 years for the City of Chicopee and retired in 1989 as a Lieutenant Detective. He was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association, the International Brotherhood of Police Officers, and the Chicopee Lodge of Elks 1849. Roger was very talented and could be heard singing with his famous deep voice at many weddings and AJACs Talent Shows, often singing “My Way” which is exactly how he lived. He enjoyed hunting with his friends and his many trips to Atlantic City. Most of all, he loved spending time and playing cards with his family and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Joan M. (Curran) Paul who was Called Home on January 11, 2013. They were married at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee on July 18, 1953 and were blessed with over 59 years of happiness together. He leaves his loving son, Roger M. Paul of Chicopee; his dear niece who was like a daughter to him, his “Susie Pie”, Sue Paul of Chicopee; his two dear sisters-in-law, Theresa Paul of Chicopee and Phyllis Schaaf of Virginia; his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family members. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his three dear brothers, Robert Paul, Joseph Paul, and Raymond Paul; and his five dear sisters, Jean Avey, Cecile Paul, Rita Bihler, Lillian Demers, and Irene Paul. His funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2025 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. before the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Joan of Arc School, 587 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
