Joan Doris Lyons, born in Somerville, Massachusetts on December 5, 1933, to Philip Perry and Mary Zelie Ann Perry, passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Joan was a devoted mother and wife, dedicating much of her life to caring for her family. She worked as a registered nurse, starting her career in the labor and delivery department of a hospital, before later working in a family practice doctor's office. She had a deep love for children, which was reflected in both her career and her personal life.
Joan raised her family in Canoga Park, California, before moving to Santa Paula in 2013. Her life was filled with joy, laughter, and a love for simple pleasures, especially camping, and traveling with her family. In her spare time, she loved to play cards, go bowling, and play bingo with her friends. Above all, Joan cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother, a position that brought her immense happiness. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life, and her love for them was endless.
Joan is survived by her children and their spouses: daughter Debbie Friedrich (Jerry Friedrich), daughter Janis Carpenter (Hap Carpenter), and son Joseph Lyons (Judy Lyons). She is also survived by eight grandchildren and their spouses, as well as twelve great-grandchildren. Joan is further survived by her three brothers, Johnny, Eddie, and Danny.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Mary Zelie Perry; her sisters, Phyllis, Claire, Grace, and Doris; her brother, Philip; and her beloved husband, Joseph Lyons. She is also joyfully reunited with her amazing dog, Napoleon.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful, caring staff at The Fillmore Country Club and Coastal Haven Senior Living, who lovingly cared for Joan during her battle with dementia and supported her through her final years.
Joan’s kindness, warmth, and generosity will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished memories, and a family forever grateful for her devotion. Though she will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with her loved ones, especially her husband.
