WEBSTER – J. Wilfred “Junior” Pelletier, 80, of 55 Colonial Road, died Monday, August 14, 2006, at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Irene B. (Mason) Pelletier; 5 children, Bernard T. Pelletier and his wife Judith of East Brookfield; Cheryl P. Harrigan and her husband David and Gregory W. Pelletier and his wife Ann, all of Dudley; John M. Pelletier and his wife Theresa and James F. Pelletier and his wife Stacy, all of Webster; 2 brothers, Theodore and Ovila Pelletier, both of Webster; a sister, Dorothy Lusignan in Virginia; 11 grandchildren, Bernard, Kelly, wife of Brian Poirer, Colleen, Jessica, Tara, Gregory, Ashley, Ryan, Cassandra, Timothy and Joel; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Anthony, Ralph, Clarence, Emil, Leonard and Armand.
He was born in Webster, the youngest child of Wilfred and Louisa (Nadeau) Pelletier, and lived here all his life. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1944 and Worcester Junior College in 1947. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Pelletier opened the Mohegan Club in Webster when he was 21 years old. He later built the Mohegan Bowl-A-Drome in 1959, added a billiard room in 1962, and opened Lic’s Dairy Bar and Miniature Golf in 1973. In 1975, he established the Bayberry Bowling Center in Spencer. In 1979 he expanded Lic’s to a sandwich shop and in 1992 to a full-service restaurant. He retired in 2002 because of illness.
“Junior” was a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was a corporator of Hubbard Regional Hospital and then a member of the Board of Directors in 1990. He was a former member of the Webster-Dudley Rotary Club, and served as the chairman of the Helipad Committee for Hubbard Regional Hospital. He served on the Board of Directors and was past president of the Mass. Bowling Association. Besides bowling, he enjoyed golf.
The funeral will be held Friday, August 18, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Thursday, August 17, in the funeral home. The family requests that donations be made to either Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main St., or to St. Anne Elementary School, 12 Day St., Po Box 818, both in Webster, MA 01570.
