Obituary

Steven Kirk Whitehead, was born in Providence, RI. After graduating in 1975 Western Senior
High School in Pawtucket, RI, Steve joined the United States Navy. Following an honorable discharge from the Navy, Steve attended the University of Rhode Island (URI), graduating in May 1985 with a degree in ElectricalEngineering. At URI, Steve was a member of the Sigma
Phi Epsilon RI-Beta Chapter fraternity where many of his lifelong friendships were established.

In 1985, Steve began his career working with the United States Navy as a
Weapons System Analyst. His pursuit of higher education continued throughout his career,
earning a Master of Science degree from the Naval War College in
Newport, RI, in 1994, and a Master of Science degree in Systems Management from Troy
University in 1998.

During his 31-year career with the Navy, Steve was awarded several medals: the Navy Civilian Meritorious Service (1995), Navy Civilian Superior Service (1999) and Navy Distinguished Civilian Service (2010). In 2016, Steve retired from the Navy as the Executive Director at Operational Testing and Evaluation Force.

Steve had enormous admiration for his country and especially the military, as shown by his support of numerous organizations that provide services for veterans, such as the Gary Sinise Foundation. Steve was also a long-time member of the Rhode Island Freemasons of
St. Johns Lodge #1 Providence.

After his retirement, Steve, along with his wife, Lisa (who predeceased him in 2022), relocated to Deland, Florida. During their 35-year marriage, Steve and Lisa were devoted to each other, their family and friends, lovingly raising 14 fur babies. Steve will be interned at Highland Memorial Park in Johnston, RI, with his mother, Margaret, father, Ernest, and
brother, Andrew.
