Dorothy Mulcahy, 81, wife of the late James L. Mulcahy, Jr. of Essex passed away peacefully surrounded by love at the Kaplan House, Danvers on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 following an illness fought with enormous strength, grace and a positive perspective.
Born in Salem August 12, 1943, son of the late Dennis M. and Patricia (Moore) White, she was raised in Hamilton and a graduate of Hamilton Wenham High School. She worked for 31 years for New England Telephone/Bell Atlantic as a Data Processor. After retiring, she worked for 18 years at Appleseeds.
She was a member of the Topsfield Lions Club, a cantor with the St Rose choir, a part of the New England Telephone Pioneers of America special Olympics and spent many years volunteering supporting Chaval Skating Club and North Shore Skating Club.
She was a deeply devoted grandmother. Whether a recital, concert or sports game, she was a constant support for Finn & Emma. She was Gaga to everyone, not just to her grandkids, but all their teammates & friends. Her beautiful smile, humor and positivity were her gifts and infectious to all that were near her. She had great travel stories whether in the states or another country with friends or family. There was always a comical story especially when Jim, her husband of 49 years was involved. She cherished memories spent with family down Essex River on Backside of Cranes, tuna fishing, Salmon Sunday dinners, playing games, just being together and her precious gift of a recent trip to Aruba with family. Through her illness, her focus was always on everyone else, even in her final days.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Mulcahy and her companion, Ronald MacIntyre of Essex and Tricia O’Donnell and husband Brian; two grandchildren Finnegan James and Emma Lucy O’Donnell of Ipswich.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Visitation Parish, in St. John the Baptist Church, 52 Main Street, Essex, MA at 5:30pm. Family and friends respectfully welcomed.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made to: Kaplan House Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Ste. B102, Danvers, MA 01923 or OCI Healing Research Foundation, 300 Congress Street, Suite 312, Quincy, MA 02169 or a charity of one's choice.
