ANDREW J. ZAGURSKIE, JR. OBITUARY
Andrew John Zagurskie, Jr., 90, of Rochester Mills, PA died Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at the Mulberry Healthcare Rehabilitation Center in Punxsutawney, PA.
The son of Andrew J. and Anna (Komola) Zagurskie, Sr., he was born on February 23, 1935 in Aultman, PA.
Andy served his country in the US Army as a Private during the Korean War.
For fifty-three years, he was married to his beloved wife, Phyllis Irene (McMillen) Zagurskie until her unexpected death on December 24, 2009.
Prior to his retirement, Andy was employed as a precision tool and die maker, where his innate gift for fine details and creativity was of great benefit. Some of the highlights of his career were his work with the Eaton Company in Cleveland, OH that included taking classes at Case Western Reserve University and his work at CORTOMIC, where he was proud of assisting with the design of the pacemaker and the mechanical heart. A man with the unique talent and ability to rise to a challenge, Andy’s design of a dense piece of carbon created without the presence of oxygen garnered him a commendation awarded from Penn State University.
Andy loved being in the outdoors tending to his vegetable gardens and fishing, especially in the Little Mahoning Creek that flows by his family’s property. A man who enjoyed looking for great deals and bargains, he could be found contentedly frequenting flea markets.
As anyone who knew Andy was aware, he possessed a lifelong fondness for Volkswagen vehicles, owning thirty-three Volkswagens over the course of his lifetime. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Surviving are his three children: Kathryn Ramsey of Indianapolis, IN; Scott Zagurskie and wife, Debra of Palmyra, PA and Renee Oman and husband, Mark of Hummelstown, PA; his six grandchildren: Jennifer; William; Matthew; Nathan; Joshua and Ashley, his five great grandchildren, Natalie; Audrey; James; Andy and Colton and his two brothers: Harry Zagurskie of Indiana, PA and James Zagurskie and wife, Ella of Homer City, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his grandson, Lawrence Ramsey; his sister, Shirley Hobart and his brother, Frank Zagurskie
Family and friends will be received from Noon to the time of the 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, March 31, 2025 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA. Pastor Raymond Hill will officiate. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Rochester Mills, PA.
Andy was very appreciative of the excellent medical care he was provided by the VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be forwarded in Andy’s honor to the DuBois VA Clinic, 5690 Shaffer Rd., DuBois, PA 15801 to assist in the ongoing care of our nation’s veterans.
