Thomas J. Koffolt, 92

Thomas J. Koffolt, age 92, of Canton, Massachusetts, formerly of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Monday, March 24, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Bonnie (Gutzler) Hutchinson and the late Carol (Ballantyne) Koffolt.
Born in Columbus, Ohio on November 10, 1932, he was the only child of Joseph H. and Ivy L. (Johnstone) Koffolt.
Tom grew up in Columbus and was a graduate of Aquinas College High School. Active in scouting, he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He later earned A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and also a member of the Naval ROTC Program. He later served as an officer in the U. S. Navy, stationed in Puerto Rico, during the Cold War.
A retired Chemical Engineer, Mr. Koffolt spent his entire career at Union Carbide, working in Puerto Rico and New York. His position as International Marketing Manager took him on innumerable business trips to South America and Asia, Europe, Russia where he made many lasting friendships. After taking early retirement, he spent another 20 years consulting part time for the Nagase Corporation of Japan. Tom loved people and spending time with family. His hobbies included sailing, golfing, hiking and traveling, an avid baseball fan, a long time N.Y. Mets devote. A highlight of his retirement was getting to sail the Intracoastal Waterway from Connecticut to Georgia with DON, his best friend from childhood. Tom maintained a sailboat for fun and frustration throughout most of his retirement.
He was the devoted father of Kimberly A. Koffolt and her husband Brahim Hadj-Moussa of St. Paul, Minnesota, Karen E. McDonough and her husband Paul of Mansfield, Massachusetts and the late Marcia L. “Marcy” Koffolt. He was the cherished grandfather of Miriam Hadj-Moussa and her husband Andrew Cornett of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Kenza Hadj-Moussa and her husband Jeremy Messersmith of Minneapolis, Minnesota and the great grandfather of Sia and Aaron.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 5th at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield, Massachusetts. Burial will be held privately at Orleans Cemetery in Orleans, Massachusetts at a later date.
A reception and continued celebration of Tom’s life will follow the services on Saturday at a place to be announced at the conclusion of the Funeral Mass.
