Bobbie Jeane McCormack, M.D., 90, of Hanson, Massachusetts passed peacefully at home on March 22nd surrounded by family and held in love. Born in Houston, Texas in 1934, she was the first daughter of Howard D. Roland and Lois M. (Neel) Roland.
She graduated in 1962 from the University of Texas with her doctorate in medicine. She went on to complete her rotating internship at St. Elizabeth’s in Brighton, Massachusetts, where she met the love of her life, the late Paul J. McCormack, who was working as an x-ray technician. On their fourth date, Paul proposed, and she said yes. She returned to Galveston, Texas to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Paul and Bobbie married in Galveston in 1964 and three years later settled in Brockton, Massachusetts where they raised their four children.
As a female physician, Bobbie Jeane broke barriers and paved paths for women who followed. Her career spanned 36 years at Brockton Hospital and over 30 years in private practice. She served as President of the Board of Directors of the Pilgrim Foundation for Medical Care from 1992 to 1997. She prided herself on cultivating personal connections with her patients, often drawing from her own lived experience as a woman and as a mother.
Though known in the community as Dr. McCormack, her passion was family. She most treasured her roles as wife, aunt, sister, Mom, and Nana. She was an ardent advocate for all of her family and supported them through all of her life. She was always there when anyone needed a shoulder to cry on, a word of wisdom, or a nudge in the right direction. Her profound empathy created a strong foundation for her family to flourish.
For years to come, those who love and were loved by her will celebrate her in the simple joys that she relished: butter pecan ice cream from Heidi’s Hollow, the first few hot fries from a Five Guys to-go bag, audiobooks from the public library, the pitter-patter of a dog’s paws, the bloom of a hydrangea, the blossom of a dogwood, the pleasure of a cozy nap on the couch, a family Zoom call, a well-stocked candy jar, Rachel Maddow.
Bobbie Jeane was a gentle yet unshakeable force for good. Generations within her family and beyond benefitted from her kindness, her advocacy, and her boundless love. In a special way, she will be remembered for her fierce and unwavering support of the LGBTQIA+ Community.
She will be dearly missed by so many. We will forever carry her heart in ours.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. McCormack, Sr. and leaves behind her four children: Sheila Child of East Bridgewater, MA; Karen McCormack and her spouse Lisa Makrys of Stoneham, MA; Paul McCormack, Jr. and his spouse Shannon McCormack of Columbia, SC; David McCormack and his spouse Kimberly McCormack of Newfane, VT; her nine grandchildren: Connor, Juliana, Andrew, Jordan, Percy, Ethan, Aiden, Tyler, Riley; her sister Helen Marie Cook of Huntsville, TX; her faithful canine companion Daisy Mae of Hanson, MA; and countless others who adored her.
