Obituary

Cesar “Cesi” Lopez passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Tufts Medical Center after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Maria Santiago, with whom he shared 47 years.

Born in Puerto Rico, Cesar was raised and educated in Philadelphia before settling in Massachusetts. He worked for many years in the Lowell textile mills, primarily at Joan Fabrics, but also at other mills throughout his career.

Cesar was known for his quick wit and love of laughter, always ready to crack a joke with family and friends. He enjoyed watching wrestling and TV, and he had a deep appreciation for the salsa music of the 1970s and ’80s. More than anything, he cherished the time spent with those he loved.

In addition to his wife, Maria Santiago, he is survived by his daughters, Carmen Lopez and her partner, Dennis Voorhies, of Lawrence, and Meliza Lopez of Lowell; his stepsons, Angel Figueroa and Danny Figueroa, both of Lowell; his siblings, Naomi Lopez of Lowell, Adaberto Lopez of Lowell, Anibel Lopez of Lowell, Margarida Lopez of Florida, and Irma Lopez of Florida. He was a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Wilfredo Lopez and Julio Ramon Lopez.

Cesar will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and love for his family. His presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

You are welcome to attend his visitation on April 3, 2025 from 9am until 11am at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 01852. His Funeral Service will take place at the conclusion of the calling hours at 11am. followed by procession for burial. www.mcdonoughfuneralhome.com
