Obituary

STANDISH – Allan Neal Pitts, 74, found peace after his battle against cancer on March 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Portland, Maine, on September 3, 1950, to Neal and Arlene (Whitehouse) Pitts, Allan spent his life proving that adventure, music, and a well-timed joke could get you through just about anything.
Growing up on the homestead in Limington, Allan graduated from Bonny Eagle High School in 1968, only to be drafted into the US Army in 1969 during the Vietnam conflict—because apparently, Uncle Sam had other plans. He later attended Casco Bay College for Business Studies but went on to work as a truck driver and sales delivery man, in which he found his niche. He was a great driver and always willing to be the point man. He was a proud and current member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Scarborough at the time of his passing and had also been a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Allan had a knack for turning everyday activities into grand adventures. He spent many weekends canoeing, camping, and generally avoiding anything resembling a dull moment. He loved hitting the open road on his bike, dominating a game of pool or cribbage, and engaging in deep philosophical discussions—whether you were ready for one or not. He passed on skills in music, mechanics, driving, and carpentry to his children, ensuring that at least some of his knowledge (and probably his stubbornness and attention to detail) would live on. His guitar was a near-constant companion, and if there was music and good company, Allan was in his element.
Predeceased by his parents, Allan leaves behind his brother Marvin, as well as his children, Laura (Ken) Fish of Steep Falls, Justin (Abby) Pitts of Limington, and Cortney (Brad) Schwartz of New Brunswick, Canada. His face lit up when he spoke of his eight grandchildren—Broden and Kerrigan Fish; Olivia, Everly, and Maire Pitts; Logan, Camden, and Benton Schwartz—plus one great-grandchild, Beckett Fish, who will no doubt inherit some of his humor and storytelling flair. Allan had many nieces and nephews as well. He loved you all.
Per Allan’s request (and possibly to avoid anyone making a fuss over him), there will be no formal service. Instead, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date, where stories will be told, laughs will be had, and his sometimes crazy but undeniably remarkable life will be properly honored.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Allan’s memory.
Rest easy, Dad, Gramps, and brother. Your journey was one-of-a-kind, and the echoes of your life and laughter will continue to ripple through all who had the privilege of knowing you.
