March 19, 2025

Obituary

William “Bill” Thomas Woodman, lovingly known as “Woody,” passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, at the age of 68. A proud native of Charlestown, Bill spent many weekends in Melrose during his childhood and later made it his home, where he raised his own family. Despite his life in Melrose, his heart always remained in his beloved hometown of Charlestown.

Born on December 7, 1956, to Thomas and Elizabeth Woodman, Bill lived a life marked by warmth, kindness, and an unwavering sense of loyalty. His legacy of love and dedication has touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and entrepreneur. In 1983, he brought his dream to life by founding Woodman Electric Contractors, a business built on his unrelenting work ethic, vision, and determination. Over the years, his company became a testament to his character, growing into a trusted and respected name in the industry.

In the same year, Bill married Kathleen Woodman (formerly Nikitin), with whom he shared 42 years together. He was a devoted father to Christopher Woodman and his wife, Melissa Champa; Michael Woodman; and Ashley Woodman and her husband, Joseph McDonough. Bill is also survived by his sister, Cathy McLaughlin, and his brother, Jay Woodman. He was a proud grandfather to five cherished grandchildren: Grace, Christopher, Emily, Hope, and Cailin. Family was the cornerstone of Bill’s life, and he took great joy in being a father and grandfather. His pride in his loved ones was immeasurable, and his nurturing spirit will remain in their hearts forever.

Outside of his professional life, Bill found peace and fulfillment in his garden. Many memories were made as he spent countless hours building cobblestone walls and enhancing the landscape of the family home in Melrose. His passion for gardening and landscaping reflected the steadfast, patience, and creative nature that defined him.

Bill’s legacy is not only found in the success of his business, but in the lives he touched, the community he contributed to, and the family he loved so dearly. His determination and hard-working spirit will never be forgotten.

Bill will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
