Richard D. Maltais, 97, died Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at his home. He was the husband of Mildred Y. (Shepard) Maltais. They had been married for 61 years at the time of her death in 2014.
Born in Mistassini, Quebec, Canada, he was a son of the late Arthur Maltais and the late Anna (Simoneau) Maltais Mellom. He had lived in Attleboro, MA, graduating from Attleboro High School, Class of 1945.
Richard joined the US Navy and served during WWII. He later went to Photography School in Connecticut and worked for A. Watt Photo for over 40 years as a Color Photo Technician.
He is survived by his three daughters: Susan Ascoli and her husband, Tom of Warwick, Linda Adams and her husband, Jim of Scituate and Marilyn Murray and her husband, Bob of Westport, MA, his nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a great great grandson. He was the brother of the late Albert Maltais and Dorothy Johnston.
Richard was a founding member of the American Legion, Balfour-Cole Post #64 and a Past President, a member of St. Michael’s Parish, and Past CYO Advisor of the Year.
He loved spending time in his greenhouse and garden with his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 10am at St. Michael's Church in Smithfield. His family will greet guests in the church from 9-10am. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Please omit flowers donations in his memory may be made to Children’s Charity of your choice or:
