Obituary

Irwin George Stein, known by his friends and family as “Jerry” died peacefully at the age of 88 on Friday, March 14th, 2025. Born on September 20th, 1936, Jerry grew up in Chelsea and graduated Chelsea High School. He enrolled in the United States Air Force in 1953 and spent time overseas as an Airborne Radio Operator during the Korean War. Upon his return, he married his wife of 64 years, Judy. They settled down in Revere where in 1962 and 1965 they had their two sons, Todd and David.

He fondly recalled his early years working at Fenway Park, playing ping pong, enjoying classic Westerns, and loving the Boston Celtics. His career included working in the computer industry as a salesman and later as Owner and CEO of Computer Decisions. He spent many years of his youth playing basketball with his sons, spending long days down at Revere Beach, and traveling with his wife and family to Aruba. In his later years, Jerry moved to Swampscott where he was a frequent visitor to Philips Beach with his dog Maxine and always around town with a cup of Dunkin’ coffee. Jerry was a staple at Marblehead sporting events where he could be seen at every single game his grandchildren participated in as well as an avid fan of Swampscott High School Soccer and Basketball. After he retired, he and his wife worked as crossing guards for Swampscott Public Schools and became instantly recognizable by the students and parents he interacted with.

Jerry is survived by his wife Judy, his sons Todd and his girlfriend Jeanne, and David and his girlfriend Lisa. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Alex his wife Casey, Corey and his girlfriend Becca, Josh, and Amanda and her husband Nick as well as his nephew Michael and his wife Debbie. He is predeceased by his sister-in-law Ceil and her husband Norman, his nephew Scott, his niece Marci, as well as his sister Marsha and his mother Helen. He will be greatly missed and is forever loved by his family and will always have a spot on the couch saved for him when it’s time to watch Jeopardy and the Celtics. Services were private. Donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to the Jewish War Veterans or the National Kidney Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Torf Funeral Service.
