LEONA E. ROACH – Obituary
I, Leona Roach, was born to the late William and Amy Roach on July 21, 1943, a Wednesday at 10:41 AM at Women’s and Children Hospital in Harlem, NY. Soon after, we moved from Harlem to 760 Home St. in the Bronx. While there, I attended PS23 to the 2Nd grade; Manhattan Elementary School from the 3rd to 6th grade; Northeastern Academy (Seventh Day Adventist) for 7th and 8th grade; and The Rhodes Academy in Manhattan for high school. I attended Tarkio College in Missouri for one year. Upon my return home, I worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Polyclinic Hospital for approximately a year; at the Post Office for about three years (1966 – 1969); and lastly, at the NYC Transit Authority. While at NYC Transit, I worked in the Legal department and Payroll Services. I was responsible for all payroll and benefit calculations from accidents, IOD (injuries on duty), sick leaves, military service, various salary adjustments, and more. I worked at 32nd St. and Broadway and 146th St. The department name was changed to the Matthew Hale Department in September 1993. I worked there until my retirement in April 1996. This concluded my 26-year career with NYC Transit, 19 under Matthew Hale.
I want the Co-op City Congregation to know I love them all, but we’ll see each other again. Be strong and keep the faith. Remember one thing, I love you, but Jehovah loves you even more.
Thank you very much for everything.
Your Loving Sister,
Leona Roach
