Obituary for Christian Kai Ellis Powell
(December 18, 2002-March 11, 2025)

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Christian Kai Ellis Powell, who left this world far too soon at the age of 22. A beloved son, grandson, nephew, cousin, church member, friend and a child of God. Born with a kind heart and an adventurous spirit, Christian touched the lives of many with his warmth, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends.

Christian was a Worcester native and graduate of Claremont Academy and worked as an assistant manager at KFC. He had a passion for Christ and was dedicated to his church. He uplifted others by sharing his musical gifts. He was a self-taught drummer and organist at Second Baptist Church of Worcester, a drummer at Rescue Evangelical Church of Attleboro and occasional organist at Emmanual Baptist Church in Worcester. He loved playing basketball with friends, learning Taekwondo as a child, and spending time with his family, especially his grandparents. His favorite place to be when he was younger was downstairs at his grandparents’ house where he was spoiled with love and affection. His signature move was to wedge himself between his grandparents in bed before bedtime to read his favorite book Green Eggs and Ham with them. He also spent a lot of time with his Great Aunt Flora (Tiny) who babysat him for many years. Christian worked alongside Uncle Walter who he helped with HVAC jobs. He loved when his Uncle Chris and Aunt Monick would pick him up to spend time with his cousins, Iylani and Nahseim.

His presence brought joy to those around him. His laughter was infectious, his kindness limitless, and his faith unwavering. Though his time with us was brief, Christian's impact will be felt forever. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love that will never fade.

He is survived by his mother Christina Maria Powell, stepfather Eli Thegenus, biological father Keith Montgomery, brother Juwan Montgomery, brother Joshua Davis, sister Amaya and brother Malik Dowdy, grandmother Alice (Powell) May and late grandfather Rev. Samuel May, uncle Christopher Powell (Monick), cousins Zoanjeliz Jimenez, Iylani and Nahseim Powell, great aunt Flora B. Hamner, great aunt Yvonne (Walter) Hart, grandfather Howard McCraney, late grandmother Eugenia Montgomery, godmothers Yadira Pedraza and Wanda Williams, godsister Arianna Gacheru, close friends Yanci, Shamara, Cayman, Jadaci, Frank, Jimmy, Mark, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Jerry, Elijah, Pete, Keshaun, Jasmin, church family, school and neighborhood friends along with many other loved ones that are not listed as there are too many to mention who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Christian’s life will be held on March 24, 2025 at Second Baptist Church 14 Hammond St, Worcester MA 01610. Viewing from 9a-11a followed by a memorial service at 11am.

The burial will be located at Hope Cemetery in Worcester, MA

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to venmo @Powchi or cashapp $Powchii

Christian, my only child, I love you so much. I will miss seeing your beautiful smile and feeling your big bear hugs. You always knew what I needed and when I needed it. You will always be remembered as a radiant spirit that lit up a room with your smile, who brought music to our soul and filled our hearts with happiness. Until we meet again.
