Obituary

Arthur S. Ashley, 82, of New Bedford died August 13, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Ann E. (King) Ashley.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Edward S. and Amelia (Palmer) Ashley, he lived in South Dartmouth and New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Ashley was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1943 and of New Bedford Textile Institute.
He was formerly employed as Treasurer of Ivy Fund for many years until his retirement. Prior to that, he was a chemist in the textile industry many years ago.
Mr. Ashley served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a member of the Wamsutta Club board of directors.
Mr. Ashley enjoyed boating at the New Bedford Yacht Club in Dartmouth and was a member of the American Legion Post 0462, the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Westport, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth Alumni Association, the New Bedford Whaling Museum, the United States Air Force Communications Security Squadron Veterans Group and a lifemember of Veterans of Foreign Wars at large.
Survivors include his wife; a sister, Jane Coats of Ft. Stalton, TX; 4 nephews, Gregory King of Tucson, AZ, Fr. Jeffrey King of Gallup, NM, Harold Coats and Ashley Coats, both of Texas; 4 nieces, Sharon Knorr and Janice Deardorff, both of Tucson, AZ, Palmer Coats and Nancy Coats, both of Texas.
He was the brother of the late Nancy Ashley.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 16th at 10 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday, August 15th from 4-7 PM.
