It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Seavey, 66, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. Maria passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, after a courageous battle with an illness, surrounded by her family at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, a place she considered her second home. Born in Webster, Massachusetts, on November 11, 1958, Maria spent most of her life in Massachusetts, leaving behind a legacy of love, care, and dedication.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 33 years, Marty Seavey; daughters Kimberly (Seavey) King and her husband Brandon, along with her first grandson, Weston King; Kathryn Seavey and her fiancé Anthony Mastrocola; and Lauren Seavey. She also leaves behind many nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends who will deeply miss her. Maria was predeceased by her parents, Irene (Rogala) and John Augustyn, and her sister, Marlene (Augustyn) Plaza.
Maria dedicated 38 years to her work as a Registered Nurse at MGH. She made a lasting impact in departments such as the Burn Unit, SICU, Cardiac Unit, and Emergency Department. Her nursing approach was defined by compassion, skill, and a commitment to her patients’ well-being. Maria’s kindness extended beyond her duties, often going above and beyond for her patients, whether by providing clothes for those in need or offering a listening ear. She earned numerous certifications, including CCRN, and was a Clinical Scholar. Maria also contributed to the book, Emergency Department Case Management: The Compendium of Best Practices. Her work was more than a career; it was a true calling, and she took great pride in the lives she touched.
Outside of her professional life, Maria had a great sense of humor and boundless kindness. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her loved ones. After retiring, Maria embraced her time as a "snowbird”, splitting her time between Venice, Florida, and Hancock, Maine, while maintaining close ties to her Massachusetts roots. Her daughters will carry forward her strength, compassion, and resilience.
A celebration of Maria’s life will be held on Friday, March 21st, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, MA, with a Mass at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 22nd at Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street, Webster, MA for those wishing to pay their respects.
