(Lennon) Dupont, known as “Gwen” or “Gwennie,” passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on February 28, 2025, at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, MA, surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong resident of Chicopee, she was born on September 7, 1933, to the late Joseph F. Lennon and Gwendolyn M. (Ainsworth) Lennon.
Gwen was a kind-hearted and positive soul who brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. Her great sense of humor and warm smile left a lasting impression on all who encountered her. Even in her final weeks, she maintained her positive outlook, gracefully expressing her gratitude for a long and fulfilling life.
In her early years as a mother, Gwen was an active presence at Holy Name School in Chicopee, she often volunteered for “lunch duty” and chaperoned numerous school trips. She also supported her husband in his work with the Knights of Columbus and The Elks Lodge, attending countless events and community service activities alongside him. Gwen’s devotion to her family was unwavering. As her family grew, she embraced her daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and a great-grandchild with open arms and an abundance of love. Spending time with family was always Gwen’s greatest joy.
Professionally, Gwen worked alongside her husband at Falls Machine Screw Co., Inc, in Chicopee for many years. Later she became the lead receptionist at Springfield Medical Associates, a role she cherished for 15 years before retiring at the age of 65. She and her husband enjoyed many memorable trips together, often organized by Dolly Asselin and the John Boyle O’Reilly Club. Among her most treasured travels were visits to Ireland, her father’s birthplace, where she felt a deep connection to her roots. She was also an active member of the Chicopee Falls Woman’s Club and the American Gold Star Mothers Organization. In her free time, she enjoyed meeting friends to play Bingo, participating in weekly card games at the Knights of Columbus in Chicopee, and taking day trips to casinos.
