Obituary

PORTLAND- Lois L. (Southard) Auger, 78, of Portland, Maine, passed away on March 8, 2025, after a long illness. She was born on January 20, 1947, in Portland, Maine, a daughter of Charles E. Southard and Marjorie L. (Brown-Southard) St. Pierre. She attended Portland schools. She married Joseph G. Auger Sr. on July 5, 1966.
She worked at Songo Shoes, Brookfield Athletic, Jason Caron, the Holiday Inn, and Mercy Hospital.
She enjoyed shopping, loved to cook Sunday dinners for her family, knitting and crocheting, she made mittens every year for the children at the Kennedy Park Daycare. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and family. She loved going out for walks, puzzle books, and enjoyed life with family and friends. Aside from her children, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was also a member of the VFW Post 6859.
She is predeceased by her parents- Charles E. Southard and Marjorie L. (Brown-Southard) St. Pierre, her husband- Joseph G. Auger Sr., her daughter- Carolyn M. Auger, a granddaughter Lorina C. Bonin, her brothers- Harold E. Southard II, Richard St. Pierre, John Southard, and a sister- Charlene M. Sutter.
She is survived by 3 daughters- Mary L. (Auger) Nieuwpoort of Portland and her friend Gene Cassidy of Auburn, Helen E. (Auger) Phillips and her husband Bryan of Standish, Michelle L. (Auger) Gould and her husband Michael of Westbrook, Step-Children- Tammy Auger of Connecticut, Roy Auger and Wife Anji of New Sharon, and Joseph Auger Jr. and wife Sue of Buxton, 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, her sisters- Janice Leighton of Westbrook, Gail Leighton and Shirley Dane both of Portland, brothers- Larry St. Pierre of Augusta, Jerry St. Pierre of Durham, William St. Pierre of Lewiston, her best friend from childhood- Margaret (Johnston) Chunga, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


A graveside service will be held on Friday March 14 at 11 AM at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
