Obituary

Michaels, Mary “May”, 98 of Sun City Center, FL passed away on March 7, 2025 at her home. Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, she graduated from Jamaica Plain High School.

May was preceded in death by her parents John & Lillian Glynn; her siblings Helen Reaney, Herbert Glynn and Lillian McNamara; her husband Harold Michaels and her children John Michaels and Mary Segreve. She is survived by her daughters Eileen Michaels and Theresa Rogers; her sister Joan Holzman; son-in-law Richard Segreve and grandson Sean Segreve; and many nieces and nephews.

After high school May worked as an executive secretary for the Dean of Tufts University Dental School in Boston. In 1946 she met her husband a returning war veteran. They both worked hard to support the family. May took on jobs as a bookkeeper whenever they needed extra funds. They had four children and were married for 61 years when Harold passed.

As a devout Boston Irish Catholic May did volunteer office work at St. Thomas Aquinas Rectory. She, also, participated in of a prayer group at St. Thomas for 20 years. She loved the Red Sox and Patriots and watched their games throughout her life. But she fell in love with the game of golf, joined a women’s’ league and won several trophies.

As a person May was warm, friendly, even keeled, mild mannered, and loyal with a magnetic personality that drew people to her. That explains why she had so many friends. Late in life at 84 years old she moved to Sun City Center to take care of her ailing older sister until her sister’s death. She was a regular parishioner at Prince of Prince Church and was a member of the Marion Prayer Group for 20 years.

A service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, March, 12 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City Center, FL. Additional services in Boston are as follows.

Visiting hours Thursday March 20th from 4-8 pm at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA. Funeral Mass March 21st at 10 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 97 South St Jamaica Plain. Followed by interment at Mt Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in May's memory to the Jimmy Fund or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
