Obituary

MEREDITH ---- Carol J. Moritz, beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and card-player died peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the age of 84.

Born on Christmas day in 1940, Carol brought the gifts of love and laughter, especially to those who understood her sense of humor.

Raised on a farm in Iowa, Carol was the middle of five sisters. After encouraging them to explore new places, their parents, Charles and Monica McKone, started the tradition of family reunions that has lasted 55 years.

Carol met her husband of 58 years, Ray Moritz, in Colorado. Together, they raised four children: Teri Gschwind (Karl Gschwind), Colleen Moritz (Patrice Correia), Raymond Moritz, Jr. (Nili Dekel-Moritz), and Mary Moritz.

Carol was a teacher, and especially loved teaching fourth grade. An avid gardener, she volunteered for friends of the library and the Meredith Garden Club. She was very proud of the work they did for the town.

Carol was a devout Catholic and her deep belief in God carried her through life’s joys and challenges. She found great comfort in her church community, especially this past December when Ray died.

Some of Carol’s happiest moments were spent around the card table, playing bridge with friends and ultimate Tripoli with her grandkids who inherited her “show no mercy” attitude for cards.

Carol is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Moritz and sister Elizabeth Ludlow. She is survived by her four children, her adored grandchildren (Anna, Emily, Segev, Liat, and Ofer) and her sisters (Mary Jo Harper, France McKone, and Sara DeHoff).

Carol’s humor, thoughtfulness and love will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Incidentally, Hearts was one of her favorite card games.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:00am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 300 NH Route 23, Meredith, NH.

A luncheon in the church hall will follow.

In lieu of flowers, do something kind in her memory.
