William Christopher “Chris” Freeman, 73, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Friday, March 7, 2025, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Brushy Creek Cemetery in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. Earl Perry officiating. Bobby Tharp will give the eulogy. The family will receive friends following the service at their home.
Chris was born May 9, 1951, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late William Prentiss & Dorothy Mae Gaff Freeman. He was a graduate of Irwin County High School and attended ABAC. From an early age, he worked with his father at Freeman’s Sinclair Service Station in Ocilla for many years. He retired from Delphi Automotive Systems after working 29 years with Delco Remy and Delphi. He attended Frank Primitive Baptist Church. Chris enjoyed golf in his younger years as well as fishing, dove hunting, and spending time in his shop or what he called his “dog house”. A glass bottle Coke and a pack of Lance peanut butter crackers were a daily treat. He doted on the love of his life, his wife Ginger. His daughter, Sandy, kept him somewhat in line and always on his toes and his grandchildren were his world. He loved a good Western no matter how many times he had already watched it. Chris was an avid NASCAR and college football fan and races and games were always shared with his son-in-law Devin at the shop. Whatever meal they were cooking would always be delayed when something exciting happened in the sports action. He never hesitated to give his opinion, whether you wanted it or not. Chris will be remembered as having a great love for his family, his friends, and the farm.
He is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Ginger Downs Freeman of Ocilla; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy Freeman Evans & Devin of Ocilla; grandchildren: Emma Dru Evans, Shep Evans, and Cash Evans; two sisters: Nancy Freeman Clements of Vidalia and Vickie Freeman Tharp & Bobby of Fitzgerald; a niece and nephews: Amy Tharp Taylor & Todd, Slade Clements, and Freeman Tharp & Laura. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law and his fishing buddy, Charles Clements; a beloved niece, Christy Clements Thigpen; and his best furry friend, Rip.
Paulk Funeral Home, Ocilla, is in charge of arrangements.
