Shirley L. (Poole) Wissinger, 78, of Commodore, PA left this earth on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from her home to be reunited with her husband, Carl and her daughter, Patty.
The daughter of Chris and Verna A. (English) Poole, she was born on August 5, 1946 in Lawrence Twp., Clearfield County, PA.
On June 12, 1964, she wed Carl L. Wissinger. They had shared over forty-seven years of marriage when he died on January 31, 2012.
Over the years, Shirley was a member of the Commodore Fire Company Auxiliary, where she volunteered preparing food for many events. An avid baker, she was known for baking cookies, apple pies and decorated cakes for her family and friends.
Two of Shirley’s favorite pastimes were playing bingo and Facebook games.
Accomplished at crocheting, Shirley volunteered with Project Chemo Crochet crocheting countless squares to be used in blankets for patients. She passed on her love of crocheting as a legacy to her granddaughters.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Shirley was blessed with a special warmth and love in creating distinctive bonds with each of her children and grandchildren, so they each felt loved, valued and appreciated in their own unique and distinct way.
Surviving are her five children: Bobbie Lobo and husband, Carlos of Ebensburg, PA; Tammy Nicholson and husband, Brian of Homer City, PA; Elizabeth Ballard of Woodsfield, OH; James Wissinger and wife, Heather of Clymer, PA and Rhonda Schwer and husband, Matthew of Houston, TX; grandchildren: Jonathan and Samantha Lobo; Steven and Amanda Cramer; Josh and Amber Wissinger; Patrick, Jacob and Nicholas Wright; Cory, Cody and Matthew Wissinger and Abigail, Lillian and Matilyn Schwer and great grandchildren: Jeremy; Jenna; Holly;Wyatt and Jacob.
Also surviving are her sister, Mary Helman of GA; her longtime friend, Gladys Long of Commodore, PA, as well as her beloved extended family of pets, who brightened her life - her feline companion, BJ and her fur grandbabies: Dakota; Oden; Elvis and Presley.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; her daughter, Patricia “Patty” (Poole) Wright on July 4, 1999; her sister, Betty; her brothers: Chris, Homer and Bill and her baby brother, Johnny.
Family and friends will be received from 5-8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025 and again from 11:00 a.m. to Noon, the time of the funeral service, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA. Shirley will be remembered and eulogized by her special nephew, Rev. David Hudzick. Interment will follow at the Manor Cemetery, Penn Run, PA.
