Obituary

Grace O’Neil
October 26, 1943 – March 8, 2025 Grace O’Neil (Caruso), 81, of Windham, NH, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025, in Windham, NH. She was born and raised in Fitchburg, MA, the youngest daughter of Mathew Caruso and Irene (Berube) Caruso. Grace was a longtime resident of Londonderry, NH.

Raised in Fitchburg, MA, Grace attended St. Bernard’s High school and went on to graduate from Rivier College in Nashua with a degree in education. She was proud to continue her education and earned her master’s degree from Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH, setting the example for her daughters and grandchildren on the importance of education.

She celebrated a career that lasted over 30 years as a third and fourth grade teacher at Matthew Thornton Elementary School in Londonderry, NH where she was known as Mrs. Masse and Mrs. O’Neil. Grace is remembered for saying she had the best job in the world and looked forward to going to work each day. She felt truly fortunate to love her job. One of the highlights of her career came in the years that followed her retirement when she’d be approached by adults saying, “Do you remember me, you were my favorite teacher!”

Once retired, Grace enjoyed reading, traveling to Aruba, winning at the casino, snuggling her dog, Kodi, working on her tan, spending time with her daughters, and being the best and most involved Grammy to her five grandchildren. A favorite memory of her grandchildren is the sleepovers at Grammy’s house, where there would be late night movies, popcorn and sweet treats, French toast in the morning…and a promise made not to tell their parents how much she spoiled them while they were there. Grace lives on in her family who she loved dearly. She’ll be missed by her two daughters, Corinne Foglia and her husband, David, Kristen McCormick and her husband, Wayne, five grandchildren Shannon (Foglia) Brandy and husband, Dylan, Mark Foglia and fiancée Kaylee, Sean McCormick and fiancée Carrie, Kelley McCormick, and Katelyn McCormick, one great grandson Jackson Brandy, sisters Irene Fortin and husband Ralph Fortin, and Theresa Spagnuola. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Mary Caruso, and brother Mathew.

Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 16th, 2025, from 1:00pm to 2:30pm with a memorial service to start at 2:30pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH.
