Joan Barker Dixon
August 21, 1938 – February 26, 2025
Joan Ramey (Barker) Dixon, 86, of Anderson died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 26, 2025.
She was born on August 21, 1938, to Clayton and Georgia Barker in Ashland, Kentucky.
Joan was a lover of people with a call to ministry. She had a great love of music and a beautiful voice that would allow her to go on to serve as a music and youth minister in Indiana, Georgia and Florida. She started several youth musical groups, but most notable was Sonrise, a touring group from Eastside Church of God in Anderson. In the 1980’s, Joan also served as a beloved counselor/mom with New Way Singers from Florida.
Joan was active in leadership in women’s ministry on the local, state and national level with WCG and Florida ministries.
In the 1980’s, Joan along with her husband, Buzz, led a popular young marrieds Sunday school class at East Side Church of God.
Joan’s greatest love after her Savior was Buzz, her husband of 67 years. One was never far from the other. Her greatest joy was loving and encouraging her family – children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her husband, Harry “Buzz” Dixon of Anderson whom she was happily married to for 67 years; four daughters, Kathy Henderson of Anderson, Lori Dixon of Anderson, Jodi (Jim) Hazen of Alexandria and Amy (Roger) Larsh of Goshen, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Ashley Hazen, Jeremy (Kalah) Hazen, Darby (Nikki) Hazen, Derrick (Tiffany) Larsh, Garrett Henderson, Emma Henderson; two great grandchildren, Hallie Hazen, Harper Hazen; sisters, Jo Etta (Bob) Lynch, Kathy (Mick) Sagraves and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Georgia Barker and sisters, George Ann McBrayer and Rosemary Davis.
There will be a private family service on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
