Obituary

Cheryl Ann Horrigan, 66, of Franklin, MA, and North Haven, CT, passed away on February 28, 2025. She was surrounded by family and was peaceful as she went to Heaven to be with her mom and dad.

Cheryl was born in New Haven, CT, and grew up in North Haven, CT, with her many cousins. Cheryl graduated from North Haven High School in 1977 and was a 1981 graduate of Salve Regina. Upon graduation, Cheryl began a long and meaningful career in retail where she eventually moved into Human Resources and spent 37 years working for Marshall’s and TJX, Inc. where she loved taking care of store associates and helping them and the stores through challenging times. She also enjoyed a stint as the HR Weather Girl. Cheryl spent 37 years working for Marshall’s and TJX, Inc.

Cheryl was active with Pop Warner cheerleading as a coach for her daughter Anna’s team. Cheryl was able to enjoy the thrill of winning a national championship in cheerleading with Anna.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother Anna Rose DiLallo Porter and father Scott Warren Porter of North Haven, CT and her father in-law Jack Horrigan of Bloomfield, NJ and Simsbury, CT along with several aunts and uncles. Cheryl is survived by her husband of 34 years, John P. "Jay" Horrigan and their children Anna Rose and John Patrick. Her loving brother Scott Porter and his wife Janine of Davidson, NC, mother in-law Elizabeth A. Horrigan, of Simsbury, CT, brothers in-law David Horrigan of Seattle, WA, Denis Horrigan and his wife Kristen of Simsbury, CT. Her nephews Bradley Porter and his wife Brooke, Kyle Porter and his wife Natalie Rutkowski, Jack, Declan and Mason Horrigan. And her great niece and nephew, Madison and Scottie Porter that she thought of as her own. Cheryl is survived by many cousins and friends.

Her children both followed in the footsteps of her passion for helping, and taking care of, others. Anna has been a teacher for 9 years and currently serves as a dedicated and passionate special educator. John currently serves as the head chef at Mountainside café where they serve the community and provide work for people newly entering a life in recovery. She was incredibly proud of them both. Cheryl enjoyed cooking her favorite Italian dishes and baking her famous cookies. She was able to take a once of a lifetime trip to Italy with the love of her life and some close friends this past Fall. Cheryl loved all sports, especially shopping and the Celtics but mostly spending time with family and her “little friend”.

Her funeral Mass and celebration of Cheryl’s life will take place at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.
