Obituary



It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vangjel Tanga, a beloved husband, devoted father and grandfather, loving brother and uncle and cherished friend, who left us on February 27, 2025, at the age of 77.

He leaves his wife of 43 years, Tatjana (Lolo) Tanga; his children, Julian and his wife Orela of Worcester, Emi and her husband, Aldo Hoxhaj of Nashville, TN, and Ira and her husband, Armando Jorgji of Worcester; two brothers, Pandeli and his wife, Vasilika of Virginia, and Lefter and his wife, Flora of Greece; six grandchildren, Arianna, Alexander, Aleinna, Aiden, Brian, and Adriel; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Spiro and a sister, Vasilika.

Vangjel was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, where his faith was a guiding force in his life. He worked at David Clark Company for over 15 years as a machine operator before retiring in 2015. Before immigrating to the United States, he had a distinguished career as a mechanical engineer in Albania.

Vangjel was a remarkable man, known not only for his warmth and kindness but also for his extraordinary intelligence and generous spirit. His sharp mind and curiosity about the world inspired those around him. He had a way of making complex ideas accessible, often sharing his knowledge in engaging ways that sparked thoughtful conversations.

Vangjel was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Tatjana Tanga. They shared a beautiful partnership that spanned 43 wonderful years, built on mutual respect, love, and unwavering support for one another. Tatjana was not only his life partner but also his best friend, confidante, and greatest source of joy. Together, they navigated life’s challenges and celebrated its triumphs, always finding strength in each other.

Above all, Vangjel found immense joy in spending time with his family. He cherished every moment spent with them, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love. He did everything in his power to support and encourage their goals and ambitions.
He was an amazing grandfather whose kind heart made him a beloved figure in their lives. He taught them valuable life lessons, emphasizing the importance of kindness, integrity, and perseverance, cheering them on in their pursuits, whether it academics or creative endeavors.

In addition to his family, Vangjel had a deep love for reciting poems and stories. His voice would bring words to life, captivating those around him with tales of adventure, love, and the beauty of the world. Whether sharing classic literature or his own heartfelt verses, he had a unique talent for weaving words that touched the hearts of all who listened. As we remember Vangjel, these are the things we will miss the most.

Rest in peace, dear Papu Gela. Your spirit will continue to shine brightly in our hearts and in the lives of all those you loved.

His funeral is Thursday, March 6th with a service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street (Please go directly to church). Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, March 5th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue.
