Obituary

CHICOPEE – Mary V. (Staples) Vaughn, of the Doverbrook Estates in Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, February 27, 2025. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Albany, Georgia on February 22, 1942, a beloved daughter of the late Charles F. and Mary E. (Farmer) Staples. When she was five years old, her mother passed away which later inspired Mary to become a nurse. Her father moved the family to Nokomis, Illinois. Mary spent the next 19 years of her life in Illinois, where she became an LPN and married the love of her life, Roy Vaughn. They moved to Massachusetts where they raised two children, Alan and Amy. Mary loved spending time with her family, it was always “family first, last and forever,” going out to eat at Petro’s with her husband, and watching her favorite team, the Red Sox. She was a dedicated volunteer throughout her life, whether that be her time helping her church community, working at the voting polls or making baked goods to share with her neighbors. She worked as a nurse at Baystate Medical Center for more than 40 years and retired in 2010. Mary was incredibly social and was involved with a number of different clubs and organizations like her gardening club, the Page-turner’s Book Club, and the rug club. One of her greatest joys in her life was teaching her granddaughters how to cook and sharing many wonderful recipes with them. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and many friends. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Roy Vaughn. They were married on April 23, 1966 at Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville, Illinois and they were blessed with over 58 years of happiness together. She also leaves her two loving and devoted children, Alan R. Vaughn and his partner, Laureen Blakeslee, of Chicopee and Amy S. Moore and her partner, Daniel Webster, of Springfield; her six cherished grandchildren, Natasha Vaughn-Holdridge and her husband, Kevin, Nala Thebeau, James Vaughn and his companion, Emily, Angel Orengo, Jr. and his wife, Nicole, Daniel Moore and his partner, Noah, and Kiara Moore; her cherished great granddaughter, Mila Thebeau; her dear brother, Emery Staples and his wife, Laura, of Taylorville, IL; her dear sister, Jody Lawson and her husband, William, of California; her dear brother-in-law, Ray Vaughn of Chicopee; her dear sister-in-law, Earlene Fisher and her husband, Merle, of Taylorville, IL; her two best friends, Wanda Praham and Sue Peloquin; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Charles Staples and his wife, Ann. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025 at 9 a.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 Wilbraham Road, Springfield, MA 01109. (Please meet directly at the Church). Her Committal Service will follow at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
