James B. MacNeil, age 84, of Brockton, died on February 22, 2025 at Brockton Hospital after a long illness. James was the husband of Rita (Chisholm) MacNeil. Born in Christmas Island, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Neil Michael and Mary A. (MacLean) MacNeil. He was raised and educated in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and also attended Fitchburg State. From 1960-1966, he served in the Army National Guard.
For 17 years, he was a Diesel Mechanic for General Motors Truck Division and retired from Greyhound Bus Lines. Jim was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and enjoyed collecting stamps, listening to Irish and Scottish music and flying RC airplanes.
In addition to his wife Rita, Jim is survived by his daughter Susan Walsh and her husband Michael of New York, NY and his sisters Bernadette Doe of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ann Marie Pickard of Edinburgh, Scotland and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Gregory, Francis, Jackie, Wilfred and Pius and by sisters Theresa, Michaeline and Claire.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton on Sunday, March 2, from 1-4pm. A funeral home service will be held on Monday at 11am followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery.
