Edith (Bastien) Pierre-Louis’ 82-year journey of quiet dignity came to an end on February
25, 2025, in the presence of her younger daughter and benevolent caregivers at St. Joseph
Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Dorchester, MA. The eldest of the ten children
between Thelamour Bastien and Ermite Fils Sénat, she was born on September 5, 1942, in
Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Edith’s legacy lives on through her daughters Carine Pierre-Louis of
Montreal, Canada, and Woodly Pierre-Louis of Somerville, MA; grandchildren Carla Pierre-
Louis, Alec Pierre-Louis, and Leah Pierre-Louis; sisters Marie Mirlande (Bastien) Brun, Marie
Renerthe Bastien, and Marie Hermine (Bastien) Louine; brothers Jean Gérard Bastien, Jean
Pierre Bastien, Jean Yvan Bastien, and Uneck Bastien; extended family of numerous other
sisters and brothers; countless nieces, nephews, cousins and their progenies; others whom
she embraced as family; and friends. In addition to her parents, Edith was predeceased by
her husband Joseph Antoine Pierre-Louis, son Lesly Antoine Pierre-Louis, and brother Jean
Raymond Bastien.
Edith immigrated to the United States in 1983 to seek a better life and opportunities for her
children. She eventually settled in Boston and sustained her family through over two
decades of industrious service as a housekeeper at the Boston Marriott Newton. Edith took
pride in “standing on business” to be self-reliant. As a result, she maintained a humble,
quiet life of simplicity, and took satisfaction in the successes and achievements of her
children, which she shared, are the results of the sacrifices she made, and challenges
endured and overcome. Edith was well respected and loved by many and will be
remembered for her generosity to many loved ones in their time of need, loyalty to those
who showed her kindness in her time of need, humor, and stoicism.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance from 9:00-10:30 am for a viewing,
followed by a Catholic service at 10:30 am on Friday, 7 March 2025, at the Joseph Russo
Funeral Home in Roslindale, MA. Interment will promptly follow at Fairview Cemetery in
Hyde Park, MA. After the internment, family and friends are invited to gather for a
celebration of life at Unity Sports & Cultural Club, in Dorchester, MA.
