William J. “Billy” Woods, 67, of Wells ME, formerly of Boston’s North End, passed away unexpectedly with his family by his side on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Born on August 21, 1957, in Boston, MA, Billy was the son of the late Robert A. Woods and the late Jacqueline A. (Gillis) Woods. He grew up in Mattapan and graduated from Hyde Park High School with the Class of 1976. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country proudly until 1994.
Following his military service, Billy settled in Boston’s North End, where he married the love of his life, Deborah (Ceci) Woods. Together, they built a life filled with love and family until her passing on November 4, 2013, after 13 years of marriage.
Billy is survived by his beloved daughters, Brianna Woods and her fiancé Griffin Tavallai of Merrimack, NH, and Rebecca Woods of Stoneham, MA; his brother Robert “Bobby” Woods of Wells, ME; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was predeceased by his brothers Daniel Woods, Peter Woods, David Woods, and Paul Woods.
Billy worked for the City of Boston for over 20 years. Outside of work, he was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in camping, fishing, and hunting—especially ice fishing. A dedicated sports fan, he never missed a Bruins or Patriots game. To his friends, he was affectionately known as “Bomba,” a nickname that reflected his larger-than-life personality and warm spirit.
You are welcome to attend his visitation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the McDonough Funeral Home 14, Highland Street, Lowell, MA. His funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 1 p.m. following the calling hours.
