Obituary

It was great sadness that the family of Eileen F. (Kavanagh) Jones announces her passing. Eileen passed on peacefully with family by her side at the age of 87.

Eileen was raised in Charlestown and was the loving daughter of the late Mary (Carberry) Kavanagh and Edward Kavanagh, both of whom immigrated from County Waterford, Ireland. Eileen moved to Medford and raised her family there with her late, beloved husband of 35 years, Robert Jones.

She was an adoring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will forever be remembered for her positive outlook and constant smile on her face.

She will be dearly missed by her son Frank “Chip” Jones and his wife Jennifer, daughter Jill McTague and her husband Peter, grandchildren Patrick, Amanda, Michael, Bobby, Erin and Brooke, sister Mary Carr, brother retired Boston Fire Department Lieutenant Robert Kavanagh and his wife Janice, and the late retired Boston Fire Department Captain Edward Kavanagh, Joan Boyden, and Kathleen Kavanagh. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Eileen had an entrepreneurial mind and had several successful businesses with her sister-in-law and friend Marilyn Grealish. The one she was most proud of was their Irish store in Charlestown and cart in Faneuil Hall. Eileen was so very proud of her Irish heritage and never forgot her Charlestown roots.

She was thoughtful and kind and always looked out for others. Her pride and joy in life was her grandchildren. Becoming a grandmother was her favorite title in life to have and when Eileen loved, she loved with all her heart. She was an outstanding role model of what a mother and grandmother should be.

She will be truly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Cheers to Eileen with a beer in wine glass.
