Obituary

Ethel Marie McGoff (née Rosher), 81, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, in Boston, Massachusetts. Born on February 26, 1943, in Boston, she lived a life filled with creativity, dedication, and love for her family.

Ethel earned her real estate license. She built a successful career as a real estate agent and later established her own business, Ethel Mac Realty. Her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to her clients made her a respected figure in the industry.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ethel had a deep passion for music and dance. She found joy in listening to all kinds of music and expressing herself through dance. Her artistic talents extended to arts and crafts—she loved designing unique patterns on her clothing and enjoyed drawing. She also had a sharp mind for games, excelling in darts tournaments and enjoying cards, cribbage, dominos, and brain games that kept her engaged. She also had an appreciation for Asian culture.

Ethel is survived by her children: Thomas F. McCarthy and his wife Judith M. Ostiguy McCarthy, Charles W. McCarthy and his wife Claire A. McCarthy, Timothy M. McCarthy and his late wife Marija D. Keturakis-McCarthy, Walter F. McCarthy and his wife Carla A. McCarthy, Heather M. McCarthy, and Christine P. Dennison and her husband Richard W. Dennison. She loved her large family, which included 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Marion E. Street and her husband Edmund M. Street, Thomas F. Rosher and his wife Mary Lou Rosher, Margaret A. Rosher, and Catherine M. Nenortas and her husband Rimas P. Nenortas. She was predeceased by her parents Walter F. Rosher and Ethel M. Rosher, as well as her brother Walter F. Rosher and his wife Regina Rosher.

Family and friends are invited to honor Ethel’s memory at a wake on March 2, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street in South Boston, Massachusetts. A prayer service will follow at the same location from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A celebration of life will take place from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Quincy Elks Lodge, 254 Quarry Street in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Ethel’s warmth, creativity, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a dementia or Alzheimer's foundation in her honor.
