Obituary

Fred Leon Wallace born February 7, 1947 in San Francisco, San Francisco, California to parents, Richard S. Wallace, Sr and Martha Jane Shields Wallace. He passed away I February 21, 2025, after a short battle with inoperable colon cancer, diabetes, heart and kidney issues.

Fred was educated in his early schooling in Good Hope, IL, middle school in Waukegan, IL and Beach Park, IL. He graduated from Zion-Benton Twsp High School, Zion, IL

During Fred’s Sr. year of high school, he joined the Navy through a program, 85-Day Training, at Glenview Naval Air Station, Glenview, IL, on the weekends. He spent 22 years serving his Country, being deployed and serving on 6 different ships, to include USS T. J. Gary, USS Mills, USS A.M Sumner, USS Waldron, USS Forrestal and USS Fulton. He traveled to New Zealand, went through the Suez Canal in 1967 just days prior to the war breaking out there, among many other places. He also did training at Great Lakes Naval Station. He retired from the United States Navy in 1988. He then went to work at a slaughter house in MA. Fred was an avid NASCAR fan, and he loved the water.

Fred married the love of his life, Judy Burdo, in Groton, CT, and to this union two sons were born, William Wallace and Richard Wallace, both of Holland, MA, where Fred and Judy made their home.

Fred is survived by his sons, William and Richard. Siblings, Richard Wallace, Jr. (Charlotte), Rachel Marshall, Leah Jester (Jim), Debrah Christensen and Galen Wallace, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, his parents Richard Wallace Sr. and Martha (Shields) Wallace, 2 sisters, Jane Gearhart and Pat Hansen. He was also preceded in death by a nephew Rodger Hansen.

Fred will be missed by those who loved him. RIP, dear brother.
