Obituary

GRANBY – Robert A. “Bobby” Burl, 42, of Granby, a special angel of God, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center from a very rare disorder known as Batten Disease surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and the wonderful ICU team at Holyoke Medical Center. His last selfless gift to all was the donation of life, to give many a second chance to live. He was born in Springfield on October 18, 1982, a beloved son of Diane Marie (Garrity) Burl. He was raised in Granby where he lived his entire life. Bobby was always happy to go to Cindy’s Drive In on East State Street in Granby to get his favorite thing in the world, a chocolate milk shake. Bobby is one of the oldest known survivors of Batten Disease, a rare inherited neurodegenerative disorder that affects the brain and nervous system. He leaves his loving and devoted mother, Diane M. Burl and her partner, Michael Splaine, of Granby; his two loving aunts, Cheryl M. Davidson and her partner, William Russell, of Belchertown and Linnette M. Fortier and her partner, Luis Andino, of Granby; his beloved grandmother, Collette M. Davidson of Granby; his beloved grandfather, Lawrence P. Davidson of Indian Orchard; and his many, many dear cousins and friends. He will be deeply missed by his two canine buddies, Willow and Buck. He was predeceased by his grandfather, David M. Garrity who was Called Home on May 9, 2014. His family will receive friends on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. which will conclude with a Prayer Service at 3:30 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-532-9806), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home. His Burial will be private. A Milk Shake Social will be held sometime in the spring at Cindy’s Drive In in Granby. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in Bobby’s memory to BDSRA Foundation, P.O. Box 30049, Gahanna, OH 43230.
